With great joy, I am writing my first happy birthday post to our sweet niece Laney Adyson. She turns 1 today!!! It doesn't seem like one year ago that Brett and I were in Montana, awaiting a text or call about the arrival of Laney. I remember Brett waking up early because he was worried about Laura's long labor. I remember receiving a text saying that Laney had a head full of dark hair, and then not hearing that she had arrived for another couple of hours. I remember keeping the phone on the charger because we were checking it so often. And I remember the feeling of joy and relief once we heard that Laney had arrived, and that daddy, mommy, and baby were doing great!
Laney, your Uncle B and Auntie Sara have enjoyed watching you grow this past year. From our first visit, you have captured our hearts. Your smiles and scrunchy nose make our hearts happy, and I love that we are now getting waves and blown kisses. We get so excited when your daddy and mommy FaceTime us so we can get some interaction with you.
Even though we are far away and don't see you often, we love you, little girl. Happy birthday, Laney!

Happy Birthday Daddy
Happy birthday to my wonderful Daddy! With each year, I realize how much I rely on him. While I didn't appreciate it at the time growing up, I am so
thankful that he made me learn how to change a tire and my oil, and to
think analytically about problems. Dad would take things apart and put them back together when he was a kid. I like to think I got a little bit of that from him. Even though I call him for help whenever I have a problem with our house, he has instilled
in me a confidence that I can fix almost anything (although it probably doesn't help that I feel like he can help me fix every issue from 3 hours away). I am so thankful for that confidence and for the time he took to teach me things even after working long days.
Happy birthday, Dad! I love you so much!

Chris and Kelci: Wedding Day
This post is going to be picture overload, but I am not apologizing because Chris and Kelci's wedding was so beautiful, it cannot be contained. The bridesmaids and Kelci met at a salon where Kelci's friend Amira has a booth. Normally, I would have struggled getting up before 5 AM, but Amira was so wonderful and happy, that it wasn't difficult. Not to mention, my brother was getting married so I was pretty excited.
After coffee and getting our hair done, we headed over to the church. Kelci had gone a little before us so she and her mom could have some alone time while her mom helped her into her dress. Oh what a sight it was to walk in and see the beautiful bride!
We had some time before the ceremony to get some bridal party pictures (without Chris and Kelci seeing each other). After the bridesmaids got pictures with Kelci, and Kelci was hidden in the back, I went out to see Chris before the ceremony. He was pacing the room, and sweating a bunch. It was super sweet. (Don't hate my for saying that) Right before the ceremony started, we all prayed over Kelci. Moments like that are something I will never forget.
By the time the wedding started, it was like blizzard conditions to this East Coast girl. I have never seen snow like that. Because of the weather, the turnout was a little less than expected, but it was perfect. Chris and Kelci didn't do a first look, so Chris' first time seeing Kelci was as she walked down the aisle. He got a little choked up. The ceremony was so Christ-centered, and exactly what Chris and Kelci wanted.
After the ceremony, we headed over to Big Horn Resort, where the reception was located. Kelci's family had prepared all of the food. I have to say, the baked beans were the best baked beans I have ever had. It was a very relaxed and intimate reception.
People started trickling out because the snow was getting worse and worse. By the time the garter and bouquet were supposed to be tossed, it was pretty much family and some of Chris and Kelci's friends from ultimate and the hospital. Although there weren't very many people for the tosses, it was still great that they got to do it. For their exit, we decided to do a human tunnel. You know, like the ones we did when we played rec soccer in elementary school. I loved that we did that.
God answered our fervent prayers, and Chris and Kelci were able to make their flight out of Billings the afternoon of the wedding, unlike the rest of us. Mom, Dad, and Oba (released from the hospital after the wedding) were able to make their first leg of their flight at 6 AM on Sunday and get home early Monday morning.
Brett and I found out Saturday evening that our flight was cancelled. We supposed to leave at 6 AM too, but our plane never reached Billings from the previous night. Mom drove me to the airport at 8:30 Saturday night after I had been on hold for 2 hours with the airlines. Unfortunately, the check-in lady cut off the line right before me.
The airline rescheduled our flight on THURSDAY! Yes, five days later. Neither Bret nor I could wait that long, as Brett was in the middle of recruiting (without cell phone coverage in Montana), and I had some deadlines for work. We decided to go to the airport at 4 AM Sunday morning to see if we could switch our flight. Thankfully we were the second in line so we could walk right up. The ticket counter lady was on the phone for us for 1.5 hours! Something is wrong with the system if your own employee has to be on hold that long.
Anyway, we were able to get out of Billings Monday evening, with a layover in Denver, a 1:30 AM flight to Philadelphia, and finally a 9 AM flight home, arriving home by 11 AM on Tuesday morning. It was a long night with very little sleep, but we made it. When we landed, it was single digits in North Carolina!! I don't know if I have ever seen that before. Because it had been so cold for so long, our car battery was dead. We called the parking people at the airport and only had to stand in the single digit weather for about 20 minutes. Apparently, it had been happening to a lot of people. Very thankful the parking people were so fast at the airport. After a long day of traveling, standing in the cold was not what we wanted.
Well, that is my recap of my brother's wedding. We love you, Chris and Kelci, and are so glad you found each other. God orchestrated your lives so you would meet each other, fall in love, get married, and further His Kingdom together. I am so excited to see what He is going to do in your life and marriage.

Chris and Kelci: Bachlorette Fun
Since Kelci's bridesmaids span the country, we decided we would do the bachelorette party after the rehearsal dinner. Deb made reservations at the Montana Sky restaurant, located on the 20th floor of the Crowne Plaza in downtown Billings. We all jumped in Kelci's car, listened to her music, and talked. Man, does that girl like herself a playlist :)
Once we got to the restaurant, we ordered two desserts to split and coffee. Heaven knows I needed some coffee with the two hour time difference after a day's travel. The dessert was fantastic! After the dessert, we gave Kelci some gifts, which I think were very much her. Then we got some pictures with her on her last day as a Schaal!
So glad we were all able to celebrate Kelci together before her and Chris' big day!

Chris and Kelci: Rehearsal Day
I can't believe my brother has been married for over a month! It seems like he and Kelci just got married last week. Man, time goes by fast. I am posting pictures that my Mom, Dad, and I took so I want to break their wedding weekend into a few posts: Rehearsal Day, Bachelorette Fun, and Wedding Day
Brett and I came home from Maggie and Sam's wedding on January 1st in the afternoon. We had already been on the road for over a week, so I did about four loads of laundry when we got home. Our flight left at 6 AM on January 2nd, and we arrived in Billings, MT around 1 PM. That's one good thing about flying west: you gain time.
We went to Rib and Chop House for dinner. Now, if you read the post about Brett and my trip to Billings last March, you'll see that we ate at Rib and Chop, and Brett was in heaven. I have to say, one time eating a Montana ribeye did not quench his excitement. He was talking about the steak the entire week before the wedding. We met Kelci's family and MOH Deb here. They are so sweet and warm. Conversation was so easy. After dinner, Brett and I went back to Chris' apartment to spend the night and keep him company.
The day before the wedding was quite a whirlwind. We got take out from the newly constructed Steak and Shake (seriously the parking lot was always packed) and went to eat with Mom, Dad, and Oba in their hotel room since Oba wasn't feeling well. Since she's older, she doesn't have the ability to regulate her body heat as well. The climate is so drastically different in Montana than it is in North Carolina, especially in the winter. It is incredibly dry and bitterly cold once the wind blows. It easily cuts to the bone and takes your breath away.
After lunch, we met where the reception was being held, conveniently located in the resort where Mom and Dad were staying. While we were decorating, Oba seemed to be fading. She was having a hard time speaking and was leaning to one side. Since she has had some health problems in the past, Mom and Dad decided to take her to the ER at the Billings Clinic (where Chris and Kelci work) to make sure nothing was wrong.
Shortly after Oba was taken to the ER, we had to go to the rehearsal. Dad was the best man so he had to be there. It was a pretty stressful time, not knowing what was wrong with Oba, and not knowing if Mom would be able to make it to the rehearsal or the rehearsal dinner. It's a great thing that they took her to the ER though because the Billings Clinic ended up admitting Oba. Because Oba was admitted, Mom was able to make it to the rehearsal dinner. Although it wasn't ideal, since Oba was in excellent hands at the Billings Clinic, we were able to not worry about her as much during the rehearsal or the wedding day.
The rehearsal was small, but oh so lovely. It was pretty much the wedding party and some extended family. Mom, Dad, and Kelci's parents made a wonderful slide show. Though Chris and Kelci's romance has been a whirlwind, there is no doubt in my mind that God orchestrated the paths they needed to take in order to meet each other. It's truly amazing.
Stay tuned for some bachelorette fun the night of the rehearsal dinner!
